How to add a Belgian (non-Apple) keyboard on Mac OSX

February 23, 2015

As you might have noticed when hooking up a regular keyboard on a mac, some of the buttons are not where they appear to be. Here’s how to fix this.

  1. Download Belgian (Non-Apple).keylayout.
  2. Place the downloaded file in /Library/Keyboard Layouts or ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts if you only want it available for the current user.
  3. Log out and back in.
  4. From the Input Menu in the International preference pane, there should now be a layout called Belgian (Non-Apple). Select it, and you should be good.
